Mondaine Beats TAG Heuer in Smartwatch Release
While TAG Heuer is due to release its Carrera Wearable 01 smart watch this November, another Swiss rival has already taken strides. The Mondaine Helvetica 1 Smart Watch has just been put up for pre-order with a limited 1,957 pieces for sale (as this was the year Swiss typeface designer Max Miedinger created the Helvetica font).
While technically more of an activity tracker than an Android Wear smart watch, the Mondaine Helvetica No 1 records steps, sleep, and calorie burn and offers smart alarms and activity alerts. Packed with Fullpower Technologies’ MotionX platform (like that of Nike Fuelband and Jawbone), the Mondaine tracker takes the form of a regular, fashionable wristwatch.
All data syncs with the user’s smartphone and in-depth details can be viewed in the dedicated iOS or Android app.
For limited time, Mondaine’s offering will retail for $850 - increasing to $100 in September.
