TAG Heuer to Unveil $1,800 Smartwatch
Earlier this year, TAG Heuer announced its collaboration with Google and Intel to enter the world of wearables. Now, according to Tag Heuer CEO, Jean-Claude Biver, the Carrera Wearable 01 smartwatch is set to be released on November 9th at the LVMH building in New York with a price point of $1,800 ($400 over previous reports).
As CNBC reports:
Biver told CNBC earlier this year he believed the Apple Watch would boost the timepiece industry by capturing the interest of young consumers, among whom watches are not in fashion. On Tuesday, he said he loved the Apple-Hermes deal because it shows that the smartwatch has cracked the luxury market. - via CNBCWe certainly agree with Biver’s stance. Similarly, Central Watch’s own Steve Kivel told MarketWatch earlier this year that while comparing wearables to timepieces is like comparing apples to oranges - they do however, bring the potential to get a new generation interested in watches again.
So far, no further details about the smartwatch have been revealed other than it’s supposed to mimic the look of the Carrera Heuer 01. We’re looking forward to what this Swiss watchmaker has in store.
