Signs It’s Time to Service Your Watch
“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” - an expensive philosophy to live by. In fact, one of the biggest causes of watch malfunctions comes from neglect. Much like your car needs routine service to keep it in proper running condition - your timepiece is no different.
Not sure if your watch is ready for service? See if you notice any of the below signs:
- Inaccurate time: Is your timepiece noticeably fast or slow? There’s a chance your movement may have been magnetized (commonly from cell phones, computers, or speakers). The inaccurate time can also simply mean your timepiece is in need of new oil.
- Foggy case: The crystal on your watch should always be clear. If you notice any condensation or fog - it should be serviced immediately. While the consequences may not be noticeable just yet, the moisture can quickly damage the internal parts of your timepiece.
- Temperature changes: Both mechanical and quartz timepieces are sensitive to extreme temperature changes. This exposure can diminish your battery life and affect the viscosity of the lubricants in the watch.
