Have you ever had a hard time picking out a watch? Here are
some dos and don’ts of purchasing a watch, provided by The Wall Street Journal.
First, only buy a watch you’d want to wear in the first
place! This way you’ll never feel like you’re stuck with it or won’t wear it! Also,
buy your watch from a reputable retailer, like Central Watch. The reputation or brand of the watch you
purchase will ensure you’ll enjoy decent service and back-up. It also
guarantees that you’re not buying a counterfeit watch! Be nice to the retailer
because in return the store will look after you and your watch for years.
Secondly, look to the well established brands. These include
Patek-Philippe, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Audemars-Piguet, Vacheron Constantin, Rolex,
International Watch Co. Schaffhausen and others of that sort. Many of these
companies’ products become family members, and heirlooms that survive from
generation to generation. Also, if you ever need to sell, these are easier to
place.
Be conservative about the watch you choose. Often times,
nothing dates more quickly than a radically styled watch.
Choose a watch with a strap over one with a bracelet if your
funds are limited. Bracelets add a lot of cost onto watches and on a fine
watch, a strap is better than a so-so bracelet on a watch.
