The following is a PRESS RELEASE from April 11th, 2012:
New
York, NY – April 11, 2012
– Central Watch
– an iconic shop in the historic Grand Central Terminal and the building’s
second oldest tenant – is celebrating its 60th anniversary in a big
way: one lucky person has a chance to win a very special watch from one of the
most iconic watch brands in the world.
In honor of its 60
years and of the great watches that have been repaired and restored in the
shop, Central Watch is celebrating its anniversary with a contest called Central Watch’s 60th Anniversary Vintage Rolex
Giveaway in which a
lucky visitor will win a vintage Rolex Submariner valued at $4,995. The contest
begins May 1, 2012, and runs for two months. In order to win the Central Watch’s 60th Anniversary Vintage Rolex
Giveaway, entrants
must visit Central Watch in the 45th Street Passageway at Grand
Central Terminal and submit an entry form. In addition, those who submit an
entry form can receive an additional entry by liking Central Watch on Facebook or following Central Watch on
Twitter (@CentralWatch). The entrant must post one of the
following phrases: “I just entered @GrandCentralWatch’s
60th Anniversary Vintage Rolex Giveaway @GrandCentralTerminal” on Facebook and “I just entered
@CentralWatch 60th Anniversary #VintageRolexGiveaway
@GrandCentralNYC” on Twitter. The winner of the contest will be announced on
July 2, 2012.
Family, loyalty, and word-of-mouth advertising turned a dream
into a long-standing reality for the Kivel family. Central Watch was founded in
1952 by Max Kivel, a Russian immigrant who fled Eastern Europe in the early
1900s when he was 13, moved to Canada and then made his way to New York City. Since
he opened the shop in Grand Central 60 years ago, three generations of Kivels
have earned and maintained Central Watch’s reputation as New York City’s
premier watch repair service. Now Kivel’s grandson Steve runs the shop, where
the staff services vintage and modern watches brought in by decades of repeat
customers.
“The fact that our
family has been able to maintain a little shop and grow it into a business with
loyal customers living around the country for all these years is an honor to my
hardworking grandfather who had a dream,” Steve Kivel said. “We hope to
continue improving the business and delivering quality service to our customers
for decades to come.”
In addition to the customers who visit the store, Central
Watch is the go-to shop for national and international companies and department
stores with customers whose watches are in need of repair. Customers have been so loyal that
Central Watch created a program a few years ago to help customers who have
moved to other places around the country. The program allows customers to mail
their watches for minor repairs and battery replacements to the New York store
and Central Watch will return the fixed watch within a week.
“Central Watch is a
family business that truly serves the community and a part of what makes Grand
Central so great,” said Nancy Marshall,
Director of Grand Central Terminal Development at MTA. “Grand Central also is
preparing for a milestone and we are thrilled to have venerable tenants such as
Central Watch with us for the Centennial.”
