Unique Timepiece Spotlight: Parmigiani Senfine

We know a mechanical watch needs to be wound several times a week - but imagine if you only had to wind it several times a year? That’s what the Senfine intends to do.

While still in the prototype phase, a timepiece revealed at last week’s SIHH from Parmigiani may revolutionize the mechanical watch industry. The watchmaker has introduced the Senfine movement that has a power reserve of 45 days, possibly reaching up to 60!

The word Senfine means “eternally” in Esperanto. The movement is based on an invention by aerospace engineer and physicist, Pierre Genequand, who approached the problem of increasing power reserve by reducing parasitic loss instead of adding energy. Movement manufacturer Vaucher is currently developing it and Parmigiani is aiming to have the first watches on the market by 2018.
