Groom Gifts: Wedding Watches

It’s common practice today for a bride-to-be to give their groom a token of their love - and for many, that gift is a watch. Not surprising, as aside from his wedding band and perhaps a pair of cufflinks, watches are typically the only extra jewelry men wear. But the wedding watch isn’t just any watch - this should be a timepiece designed to last through the generations.

So brides take note, keep these three tips in mind during your gift hunt:

Consider your budget.
While not a set in stone rule (though one that has been seeing popularity the last few years), consider a three months salary budget for this purchase. If you already have a price range in mind, stick to it while reviewing your options and opt for solid materials (stainless steel or gold) rather than something “plated.”

Keep it simple and small. Take into account your groom’s wardrobe and choose a timepiece that is classic and easily paired with any outfit. While colored dials are nice, they may not be as easily paired as a traditional white dial is.

Consider the strap. Keep the nylon and rubber straps out of the decision making process. This is your wedding - stick with a traditional leather or metal band. If you’re looking to purchase a vintage timepiece, you may wish to upgrade its strap to help it stand the test of time.
