Day Trips From NYC on the Metro North

History, nature, and art exhibits are just a short train ride away from the hustle and bustle of New York City. With one of the last weekends of summer ahead, leave the big apple behind and head north bound to these convenient Metro-North day-cations:
Bear Mountains
Bear Mountain State Park - Clear your head from the hustle and bustle of New York City and head up to Peekskill for a hike along Bear Mountain’s tranquil, woodsy trails. Take a climb to get a stunning 360-degree view of four states (NY, NJ, CT, and PA), the Big Apple Skyline, Storm King Center, the Hudson Highlands, and the Hudson River some 1,000 feet below. Just be sure you BYO picnic as your food options are limited. Hop on the Hudson line to Peekskill station (45 minutes) and grab a 15-minute cab ride over to Bear Mountain.
Tarrytown - Calling all antique and history lovers, this charming Westchester village is for you. With historic mansions and antique shops abound, you’ll find lots to explore just 25 miles from our metropolis. Simply take the Hudson line to Tarrytown station (35mins) and consider paying for the Kykuit Tour ($43) which includes a round-trip ticket and “The Classic Tour” - a guided tour of John D. Rockefeller’s stunning home.

Dia: Beacon - An art buff’s dream - spend the day exploring Dia Art Foundation’s extensive, A-list art collection. Occupying a former Nabisco box printing factory, the museum is the home for Dia’s collection of art from the 1960’s to the present as well as special exhibitions, new commissions, and public and education programs. Take the Hudson line to Beacon station (70 min) and consider the MTA’s One Day Getaway Package offering discounted round-trip and museum admission tickets for $36.50.
Located in the heart of Grand Central Terminal, we see travelers and commuters alike passing through our 45th Street Passageway location. If you plan an upcoming day-cation, be sure to stop by and pay Central Watch a visit!
