Central Park's Best Picnic Spots

 

This summer has brought New York City plenty of beautiful weekends and sunny afternoons. How are you enjoying them? Whether you are a resident or a commuter, Central Park has seven great picnic spots that let you soak in the sun.

Grab a picnic basket and a date. These spots are made for lazy days in the park:

Great Lawn - With 55-acres of wide open space, this is the perfect spot to relax for hours. Plus, it's directly in the middle of the park so you're really escaping from city life. Located mid-park between 79th St. and 85th St.

Sheep Meadow - The name comes from the flock of sheep that called this 15-acre pasture home until 1914. Today, this is is the perfect place to go for piece and quiet, as it is one of NY's 8 designated quiet zones. Located between W. 66th and W. 69th St.

Belvedere Castle - With a perfect view of both the park and city skyline, this spot is the best of both worlds. Located mid-park at 79th St.

Great Hill - You have options here that you don't have in many other places in the park - a public restroom and picnic tables! Surrounded by elms, this is a another great place to share a meal. Located on the west side between 103rd and 107th Streets.

Bow Bridge - Said to be the most romantic spot in the city, this place is full of beautiful scenery. You may even recognize it from one of your favorite films. Located mid-park around 72nd St.

Strawberry Fields - Also one of the quiet zones, this spot is a living memorial to John Lennon. If your a fan, this is an easy pick. Located on the west side between 71st St. and 74th St. 

Pool - This man-made lake brings a nice country feel right into the middle of a bustling city. Located in the northwest between 100th St. and 103rd St.
