The Most Coveted Watch Money Can’t Buy
The Rolex Daytona - a scarce timepiece to begin with - unveiled a new model at Baselworld: the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona. This new Daytona is scheduled to be released this year, but even if you have enough to cover the $12,400 price tag - good luck getting one.
As the New York Times so nicely put it:
"Imagine if Apple released a new iPhone, but no one could buy one, no matter how early you lined up. Imagine if Tesla answered the 400,000-plus pre-orders for the new Model 3 by making a few hundred. Imagine if Gordon Ramsay opened a power-lunch restaurant with only two tables."
This next-generation Daytona is the watch Rolex lovers have been waiting for. Unfortunately no one knows just how many will be released - though its likely there will not be nearly enough to satisfy demand. That said, it’s looking like watch lovers who are eyeing this Daytona may be left to join a wait list that ranges from 2-5 years.
