88th Annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade!

Time to gear up for the 88th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade! This Thursday, from 9am-noon marching bands, enormous balloons, and extravagant floats will once again take over Sixth Avenue.

The parade kicks off at 77th Street and Central Park West, traveling downtown to Central Park South/59th Street. From there, it heads east to Sixth Avenue and continues down Sixth until it concludes at 34th Herald Square.

If you’re planning on making the trip out to watch the parade, prepare for an early morning to snag a prime spot. The three recommended stretches on the route for watching the parade include:
  • Central Park West - Two blocks from the official start of the parade at 75th Street. Note, only the west side is open to the public as the rest is closed off for invite-only grandstand seating. If you’re an early riser, this is the spot for you - many head over at 6am for prime viewing positions.
  • Time Warner Center - The Shops at Columbus Circle open at 9am Thanksgiving Day. Head up to the second and third floors of the mall for an elevated (and indoor) viewing experience.
  • Sixth Avenue - Additionally, you have the option of a spot along the 21 block portion of Sixth Ave. If you miss the 6am mad dash to Central Park West, turn instead towards the end of the parade route.
If you are not planning to be part of the 3.5 million that typically line the parade route - we don’t blame you. With the threat of a white Thanksgiving, opting for front row TV viewing is certainly another option. Whichever you decide, stay safe and dress warmly. From all of us here at Central Watch, we wish you a Happy Thanksgiving!
