Thanksgiving Day Parade Viewing Guide

On November 28th, the 87th annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade will begin its route down Central Park West over and onto 6th Avenue to conclude at Macy's Herald Square. This parade is one of the biggest events the city has to offer - attracting tourists and locals alike, to brave the cold and be among the early morning crowds.

If you're going to be in attendance this year, see below for some useful tips for public viewing:

  • In order to get a good spot, many people arrive before 6:30 am the morning of the parade to stake out space along the parade route. Warm clothes, a thermos of hot beverages, and some hand warmers are great ideas as it can get quite cold.
  • Public viewing areas include:
    • Central Park West: West side of street from 70th Street to Columbus Circle & east side of street from 70th to 65th
    • Columbus Circle: West side of street
    • 6th Avenue: between 58th & 34th Streets
    • 34th Street: south side of street between Broadway & 7th Avenue
If you want to be in the heart of festivities but don't want to wake up early or navigate holiday morning transportation, you can always opt for a hotel room and let the parade come to you!  It may be cutting it close to get a prime parade view room but you should call the hotel directly and see what your options are. See below for some hotels along the parade route:
  • Trump International Hotel & Tower
  • Mandarin Oriental
  • Ritz- Carlton New York, Central Park
  • Hilton New York
  • Residence Inn New York Manhattan/Times Square
  • Courtyard New York Manhattan/Herald Square
