Hurricane Sandy swept the East Coast just three weeks ago.
Many people are still feeling the effects and will continue to do so for some
time.
However, New York City has made some progress. Twelve public schools have reported they they’re reopening. This is a sign of progress and an
attempt to return to normalcy for many people in the New York City area.
Today, Mayor Bloomberg and Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott
will be visiting Public School 43 in the Rockaways, which was severely damaged
from hurricane Sandy. Some of the schools needed repairs included new boilers
and a generator.
There are still eighteen schools that remain closed. These
schools account for about 7,800 students. All of these students were given
relocation assignments until their school is repaired.
