Expected Effects of Independent Brands at SIHH 2016

The SIHH 2016, which begins on January 18th and lasts until the 22nd, has nine new brands on this year's list of attendees scheduled to appear in its first Carré Des Horlogers. This new booth, which will occupy the space left behind by Ralph Lauren, is going to be the first one completely devoted to independent watch making and brands.

Christophe Claret, De Bethune, H.Moser & Cie, Hautlence, HYT, Kari Voutilainen, Laurent Ferrier, MB&F, and Urwerk - the nine new brands joining this years fair - were invited by the Fondation de la Haute Horlogeri (FHH) because they realize that independent brands are having a new influence on the watchmaking industry. In fact, this year, the fair's roster will include more independent brands (a total of 13) than Richemont Group brands (a total of 11). According to Haute Time, those expected to attend are some of the most successful independent brands out there right now, aside from brands such as Audemars Piguet and Parmigiani Fleurier, that are already associated with the SIHH.

Although independent watch brands like these are no stranger to competition, possibly feeling the pressure of it more so than big name brands, observations show that they often work together to share ideas and offer creative help. That said, and considering that they've shared the stage before at events such as Baselworld, it is anticipated that the participating brands will continue to be supportive of one another during SIHH 2016.
