NYC Restaurant Week Ends February 5th!
Here are a few things you may not know about every foodie's favorite bi-annual event:
How’d it begin? To feed hungry Democrats of course. In preparation for all the delegates attending the 1992 Democratic National Convention, Joe Baum (of The Rainbow Room) and Tim Zagat (of Zagat) convinced peers to set prix fixed options at their establishments.
So was New York City the first to host a Restaurant Week? You bet. NYC’s Restaurant Week has served as the blueprint for all other Restaurant Weeks WORLD wide.
Is it really throughout all of New York City? All five boroughs! So don’t limit your restaurant selections to just Manhattan. Hop on the Staten Island Ferry or see what new Brooklyn spots have joined in this year.
How’d they choose the price? Initially - it was based on the year! Since it was created in 1992, the first prix fixe deal was $19.92.
How many restaurants are included? This winter there’s 371. Meaning 41 NEW restaurants have joined the event. Including Noreetuh in the East Village - the first restaurant representing Hawaiian cuisine in NYC's Restaurant Week.
