Choosing a New Watch Strap

Changing a watch’s band is an easy way to breathe some new life into an old or worn timepiece. It’s also a great way to change up the look and style - all while giving your wardrobe more variety.

The material of each watchband can have a large impact on how it looks, feels, and fits on your wrist. Educate yourself with the pros and cons of each below, before making your purchasing decision:
  • Metal - The most common metal band is composed of special links held together by small pins. These links are pretty flexible, and the length of the band can easily be adjusted by removing the pins and adding or removing the links. Metal bands tend to be heavier than most other options and are also the most durable.
  • Leather - Best for giving a watch a classic, polished style. Both leather and faux leather watchbands are soft and flexible, bringing comfort to the wrist - but be cautious, as these features often tend to show wear and tear eventually. To adjust sizing, it’s possible to simply add additional holes to the band.
  • Rubber - This soft and stretchy material is lightweight and perfect for sports watches. They can be made in any color or style and don’t dig into the wearer’s skin.
  •
Cloth - Cloth bands like the popular NATO strap for example are very inexpensive, available in an assortment of colors and patters, and are very lightweight and comfortable. They can easily be cleaned using soap and water and can be changed without any special tools.
