Rolex Recap
T-minus one month until Baselworld 2014. This week-long event starting March 27th
in Basel, Switzerland is highly anticipated by everyone in the watch industry.
And every year, the Rolex booth is the number one exhibit to check out.
Recent years Rolex has made some pretty innovative changes,
including the use of ceramics, bracelets with Easylink and Glidelock systems,
an annual calendar, Everose gold, etc. Now whether you find a Rolex watch as
‘interesting’ as one from another brand is your call, but it's not hard to
admit that they do always seem to fit comfortably on any wrist and perform
well.
Let's look back at some recent Rolex watches that were
featured in the past Baselworld fairs:
- Rolex Sky-Dweller – Launched at Baselworld in 2012, this Rolex watch had been rumored long before its actual launch. It’s clever Ring Command bezel system allows users to control the functions of the watch in combination with the crown.
- Rolex Day-Date – Last year, Rolex introduced a new line of 36mm Day-Date watches. While we’re unclear if they are targeting only at women or also at men, these timepieces have beautiful dial colors and matching straps.
- Rolex Yacht-Master II, a hot item for the summer, was introduced at the Baselworld 2013 in stainless steel. This is one of the few Rolex watches with a ‘real’ complication besides a date feature – the regatta chronograph will help skippers in the yachting competition to have a perfect start.
- Rolex Daytona in Platinum– Many people thought this timepiece would come up with a limited edition for the 50th anniversary. But instead they fooled all of us by making a platinum version, for those lucky enough to afford one. The ice-blue dial and chestnut brown ceramic bezel create a perfect combination.
- Rolex GMT-Master IIBLNR – The perfect watch for travelers and pilots, last year Rolex launched this timepiece in a blue-and-black combination. The Bleu and Noir is equipped with the Oyster bracelet with Easylink system to adjust its size.
