Hurricane Sandy: One Year Later

www.centralwatch.com

One year ago, Hurricane Sandy hit the east coast - damaging and destroying an estimated 650,000 homes. Much of the debris from the storm is now gone, yet communities in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut are still in the midst of rebuilding.

We hope that everyone who was affected by the storm has been able to rebuild and for those who have not yet been able to, our thoughts are with you. We know so many of our customers and friends who either live in or commute into NYC were affected in some way.

Though we know this may be a time of grief and anxiety for some residents, this can also be a very positive time for the promotion of healing. Dr. Rachel Yehuda, director of the traumatic stress studies division at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, said it best:
“The year anniversary is a great time to reflect on our resilience,” Yehuda said. “People can use the anniversary to look back and see how much symptom improvement they’ve accomplished.  We don’t congratulate ourselves enough on the amount of success we’ve had coping with adversity.  We do cope well more often than not, and because we get overwhelmed, it’s useful to remind ourselves of times we truly succeeded.” - Dr. Yehuda via FoxNews
So to anyone still working to get their homes, lives, and community back to where it was over a year ago, step back and see all that you have accomplished - view today as a reminder of how much you've succeeded in the last year!
