Centennial is quickly approaching! There are tons of
events happening in the Terminal to help celebrate this special occasion!
Here are a few of the scheduled events to help celebrate
the terminals 100th birthday! Be sure to check our Facebook page
daily for updates on all events!
Main Concourse Events – February 1, 2013
9:30-10:00 a.m. - West Point Concert Band concert and
presentation of the West Point Color Guard.
10:00-11:30 a.m. - The opening ceremony of centennial.
This kickoff ceremony features surprise entertainment along with more than a
dozen well-known names and faces to help us wish the Terminal a Happy Birthday!
Appearances will include: Author and activist Caroline Kennedy, actress Cynthia
Nixon, Baseball MVP Keith Hernandez and many more!
12:00-12:30 p.m. - The Terminal will receive special
recognitions from the Guinness Book of World Records, the National Historic
Railway Society, and the American Society of Engineers. Also, the LEGOLAND Discovery
Center Westchester’s Grand Central Terminal replica made from more than 5,000
LEGO bricks will be revealed. Electric violinist Sarah Charness will be
providing the musical opening and closing of this program!
1:00-4:00 p.m. - The Terminal celebration will continue
on the Main Concourse with music and dance performances! Performers will
include: Dancing Classroom, Keigwin + Company, New York Knicks Dancers,
Westchester Philharmonic Brass Octet and the Cast members of the “Orphan Train”
musical.
6:30-9:30 p.m.- New York City music collective Djore will
play a variety of music to keep all terminal visitors entertained for the
evening! There will also be a special closing performance by Grammy Award
winning big band Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks!
