The opening ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympics is only 2 days
away! The Olympic Games always bring our nation together in ways
that cannot be described. People gain a sense of team comradory when
cheering on the athletes that represent our entire country against the
world.
It feels like it was only yesterday when thousands gathered in
Times Square, which was transformed into a festive Olympic Village for one
remarkable day to celebrate only 100 days out until the opening ceremony – and now
we're only 2! Times Square gave New Yorkers and those traveling
through a taste of what it will feel like to actually host the Olympics, which the
US hasn’t done since 2002 in Salt Lake City, Utah. The 1980 Olympic
Games held in Lake Placid, NY, has become known as “The Year of the Miracle on
Ice,” when the USA Hockey Team defeated the Russians, who were thought to be
unbeatable. I think this is what most people look for when watching the
Olympic games- a miracle, a spectacular event in which we can support a team
not just because we like the players that comprise it, but to support our
country and show our nationalism.
Omega Watches is showing their support of the Olympic Games not
only through sponsorship, but also with its new line of watches called The Olympic Timeless Collection. Each
watch in this collection has an innovative connection to the
games. All of the Seamaster watches in the Olympic Timeless
Collection have a counterweight on the central seconds hand, which is made up
of the five Olympic rings in full color. The Speedmaster
5-counter Chronograph watches feature five sub dials positioned in the shape of
the Olympic rings.
Omega has a long-standing association with the Olympic Games. Omega
is in charge of the official timekeeping of the Olympic Games for the 25th
time, measuring, displaying and distributing the results of each event at every
venue, which is one of the most important aspects of almost every event in the
Games.
Omega has prided itself on being an innovator and pioneer of new
technology in the field of timekeeping. It has been involved in some of
the most challenging and fascinating adventures in human history, including all
six lunar landings; becoming the first divers watch in 1932; and 24 Olympic Games.
Omega holds more precision records than any other watch brand. These
achievements have lead Omega to be one of the most respected brands in the
business, allowing it to have the privilege and responsibility to record the
official times of the Olympics, one of the most important sporting events in
the world.
