Patek Philippe Celebrates 40th Anniversary of Nautilus with Two New Timepieces
“A look back to 1976 not only shows how quickly and dramatically the world has changed since then but also illustrates how well the Nautilus has stayed its course across four decades in terms of design, dependability, and popularity.” - via Patek Philippe press release.
Launched in 1976, the innovative Patek Philippe Nautilus Ref. 3700/1A was unlike any other in the industry. Designed in collaboration with legendary watch designer, Gerald Genta, it was voluminous and made of steel, embodying a maritime aspect. The brand’s first sports model was a sensation at the time - being water resistant to 120 meters.
Now, in celebration of its 40th anniversary, Patek Philippe has added two limited addition anniversary models to the collection:
The Ref. 5711/1P - Reminiscent of the original Nautilus Ref. 3700/1A, the 40th Anniversary model has a width of 44mm and is limited to just 700 pieces. The case is crafted from solid platinum 950 and, like all platinum Patek Philippe watches, is fitted with a flawless rare white diamond in the bezel above the lugs at 6 o’clock.
The Ref. 5976/1G - At 49.25mm, this is the widest watch in the Nautilus line. Limited to 1,300 pieces, the Nautilus self-winding flyback chronograph is in 18K white cold. For some added flare, the hour markers are replaced with Baguette-cut diamonds and each watch will feature a special 40th Anniversary marking embossed on the dark blue dial.
Both pieces include an anniversary marking and are packaged in an anniversary cork box, an authentic replica of the stylish 1976 original.
