Steve Kivel, owner of Central Watch, a third-generation
watch repair store located in the 45th Street Passageway of Grand
Central Terminal will be celebrating the stores 60th Anniversary
this spring! Central Watch is the second oldest establishment in the terminal
after the Oyster Bar.
Central Watch was recently featured in Business Insider Magazine in an article titled “Behind the Counter At Grand Central’s Classic
Watch Shop, Where Businessmen Can Pick Up A Rolex”.
Steve Kivel’s Grandfather opened the shop in 1952 after
taking over one booth from a costume jeweler. Steve Kivel took over the
business 4 years ago from his father, who started full-time about 40 years ago.
Kivel specifically carries the highest end, most luxurious brands of watches including Patek
Philippe, Cartier, Vacheron and Rolex.
Kivel reports that business is “better than ever” and that every
day he has about two bins filled with watches that need repair. 80% of the Central Watch business is in
watch repairs. He also says
that he never lets a customer walk out of his shop unhappy, even if it means he
has to lose at the end of the day.
